The Warrior Librarian recently had a really clever joke emailed to her via a list. How did she know it was really clever? Because she wrote it herself. It had been ripped out of the WLW website, and circulated as the work of someone else.
Is your stuff being ripped off too? Below are listed extracts from really great stuff, received via email. It was tempting to include all the names and email addresses from the email headers, but considering that some people strip the original headers, things become difficult to trace back to the original source. Even the plagiarism is being plagiarised!
If you find your work below, please contact WLW to have the full header information forwarded to you or your legal representatives.
WLW TIP #1: If you receive any unattributed 'wit or wisdom' by email, do not forward it unless permission to do so is explicitly stated.
WLW TIP #2: If you find something really clever on the Internet, share it by emailing the URL to your friends, acquaintances or colleagial listserves. Unless there is an open invitation to rip it off at will. Copyright does NOT have to be stated - it is automatically implied, as per the Berne Convention.
WLW TIP #3: Every webmasters wants people to visit their site(s) and appreciate their work. URLs can be posted to "friends" by using a simple "cut and paste" script (which is copyright free). One such script can be found at Website Abstraction: http://javascriptkit.com/script/script2/tellafriend.shtml by clicking HERE.
