You just have to wonder about the so-called IT Gurus; how’s this for ‘minimal’?  What sort of sad mind comes up with acredaro as an alias for amanda.credaro.  Like, who’s that going to fool? 

Sure, you can invest millions producing state-wide WANs and campus LANs, firewalls,  virus protection, multiple log-ins for different levels of access.  But when it comes to thinking up spiffy names that conjour up images of Casablanca, or something Ian Fleming or Graham Green-ish, is acredaro really the best they can do? Sheesh!

Thank you so much to John Hall of the SCRE Centre of the University of Glasgow!  His report Neuroscience and education: A review of the contribution of brain science to teaching and learning  (you can probably find it on the ‘net somewhere) sure is going to get up the noses of quite a few ‘colleagues’.

Particularly the section on ‘Neuromyths’ … brain laterality, critical periods, enriched environments, etc.

Which, having had the dubious honor of working in a ‘Glassor School’, makes me want to print off 50,000 copies of the report and plaster them over the forehead of certain people.  Except, like, the report is 36 pages long, and multiply that by 50,000, and add the cost of a suitable adhesive ‘n’ all, makes the likelihood of this happening pretty unlikely.  But still, it’s an idea. Admittedly not a very good one …

A brilliant day weatherwise yesterday (Sunday); spent ferrying kids around to various activities and venues, in addition to last-minute sewing/ironing of costumes/uniforms, etc. Plus normal household ’stuff’. Sigh. 

 Soooo, I’d like to make an application to change my duties from ‘functional’ to at least ‘decorative’, if not ceremonial.  Does anyone have contact details for this?

I wrote it back in 2000 … but if you want to use it, modify it, or ridicule it, go ahead.  Make my pay. (<- joke; and a bad one at that.)

This is a sign that EVERY library should have, but who amongst us would be brave enough to put it in clear view of the public?

None of us are getting any younger - well, I am, but that’s just in my own mind. Or what’s left of it.

Dropped by some ‘other’ library humor sites, and was pretty disappointed to see that “Dave’s Guide” to library humor (no, I’m not going to hyperlink to it - do a search if you care enough to go there) uses WLW material for about 67% of its content. Without acknowledgement. Although in a few places, the text wasn’t amended enough - and ‘Warrior Librarian’ is still embedded in the material. Sigh. Shame, Dave!!!

Having just got his ‘wheels’ back 7 days earlier from the workshop, after the last Unscheduled Impact, the Grouchmobile got somewhat buckled in the rear end after some inconsiderate moron place a fence just metres from a semi-rural road. The 360 on the blacktop, followed by the 180 onto the verge (prior to collision) was apparently fairly spectacular.

We’re all starting to think that that vehicle has more than a touch of negative kama. Saturday night, sitting outside Warrior Librarian Central, quietly minding its own business and feeling bent and sorry for itself, the Grouchmobile was in ANOTHER accident. Seriously. It wasn’t even moving - the neighbors backed into it, and crumpled the front.

So, if you know anyone who likes an adventure, I know where you can get the ideal transport for a trip into The Twilight Zone …

Upgrades here at Warrior Librarian Central are nearing completion. In line with Change Management Principles, all stakeholders have been involved in the process. Unfortunately, Resource Relocation and Rationalization is being referred to as ‘moving the furniture around 300 times’. To be fair ‘though, we’re not talking family members, not library professionals, here.
Regarding infrastructure development, Broadband gets connected on 10th June; the digital TV cable on the 3rd. (Prioritization of installations being a small concession to sweeten the reinterative nature of the resource relocation issue.)

Assorted realia should come out of storage soon, although its placement in the new facilities might be problematic due to the kitchen extensions sucked up the space where the pile of boxes used to be stored; said boxes containing broken staplers, torn posters and other artifacts too valuable to be culled.

Grouchman’s former bedroom is still in the process of being converted into a home theatre. Some delays have occurred, as we work out how to get the domestic equivalent of a front end loader though the door, to remove the 10 year accumulation of ephemora. Over his dead body, I think was the phrase used.
