A is for Authority Files,
The heart of your system;
You fiddle with these
and your records 'll miss 'em.

B

B is for Backlog
Of work to be done;
There's always a heap,
And its rarely much fun.

C

Circulation's the process
Of borrow 'n' return;
Accurate records are
A Librarian's concern.

D

Dewey's the man
Who came up with the numbers;
For placing the books on
Kings, cats and cucumbers.

E

Empathy with patrons
Is a skill you must learn;
If you would like
Them all to return.

F

Finding Aids are a help
When searching for stuff;
Without them you'll find
The going quite tough.

G

Games are quite strangely
Shelved with The Arts;
The "seven hundred" section 
Has many strange parts.

H

Hypertext are the links
Found all over the 'net;
They might take you places
You'd rather forget.

I

Indexes are found
In the back of a book;
But only non-fiction
If you'd care to look.

J

J is for Java
A neat programming language;
For library websites
That will greatly engage.

K

K is for knowledge
Constructed from data;
But wisdom you gain
Not sooner, but later.

L

Library routines
Make sure that work's done;
From early morning light
'Til the setting of sun.

M

M is for mould
Growing in damp pages;
It shows that a book
Wasn't borrowed for ages.

N

Noddy and Big Ears 
Are now banned from our shelves;
Not politically correct
Are some fairies and elves.

O

Oh! for a cuppa
And some peace and quiet;
But every day here
Is just like a riot.

P

Potter by Rowlings
Is the latest sensation;
HP 5 is awaited
With great anticipation.

Q

Quarto are big books,
Too large for small shelves;
Make room on a bookstand,
Then read them youselves.

R

Reading, writing and research
Are language arts skills;
Without them we'd be
A great pack of big dills.

Subject headings are vital
Library of Congress is often used in public libraries
But Australian schools libraries 
Use SCIS subject headings.

(OK - you try to make it rhyme!!!)

T

Truncation of search terms
Is a handy device;
But use care with search tools
Because some are not nice.

U

User services are provided
In libraries world-wide;
Other tasks, though pressing,
Needs be pushed to one side.

V

Vocabulary,whether free
or controlled by thesaurus;
Must be used with discretion
Only patrons may cuss.

W

World Wide Web is a network
of global computers;
Giving data and info
To digital commuters.

X

Xerox produced a machine
That could copy;
But now we just use
The trusty cheap floppy.

Y

Young Adults are readers
Who are growing up fast;
No longer just teenagers
They prefer something fast.

Z

Z's are for quick naps
For a tired librarian;
To dream of a life,
Less barbarian.
