DEDUCTIVE REASONING
IN ACTION @ THE LIBRARY

  • FINANCE COMMITTEES:
    Libraries cost money to run.
    We already have a library.
Therefore, the library already has enough money.

  • ADMINISTRATORS:
Librarians need to have regular breaks.
They go home every night (eventually).
Therefore, we can cut the length of meal times.

  • PATRONS:
    Books are for borrowing.
    I am a borrower.
Therefore, I can do whatever I like in the library.

  • PARENTS OF YOUNG PATRONS:
    I am a taxpayer.
Children's Librarians are paid from my taxes.
Therefore, I can leave my children in the library for a few hours whilst I shop.

  • BOOKSELLERS:
    Libraries need books.
    I sell books.
Therefore, librarians will drop everything to see me when I arrive without an appointment.

  • LIBRARIANS:
I come to work every day.
I am undervalued, underpaid, and overworked.
    Therefore, I must be crazy.
