Note: The opinions expressed herein are solely those of the author. Any resemblance to real librarians (living or dead, or somewhere in between) or real libraries, may be a coincidence - but probably not.

Biblia, the Warrior Librarian, was created by A.B.Credaro. The practice of Warrior Librarianship is common, and therefore quite possibly in the public domain. As such, it is likely to be exempt from any copyright restrictions. However, this does not limit Warrior Librarian Weekly, its agents, employees, heirs, spouses, family pets, or others connected with the zine, from trying to make an easy buck from its use.

All material on this site was written by A.B. Credaro unless otherwize stated. Requests for permission to publish or circulate should be directed to same.

FREE MONEY FOR LIBRARIES?
Pre-recorded Music Rebate
Dollars Individual consumers and 'entities' will receive $67.3 million, according to court documents. Anyone who purchased a music CD from Jan. 1, 1995 to Dec. 22, 2002, is eligible to file a claim for a portion of this money. Good grief! Considering the quality of some of the music, you should be able to get ALL of your money back ...

PURE AND APPLIED LIBRARY SCIENCE
The 21st Century Paradigm
Library Schools are gearing up for a new approach to public information provision. Considering library usage preferences, and operational budget constraints, libraries of the future will not look exactly "futuristic", but very different to those of today. It is expected that the revolutionary approach will result in savings in the areas of staffing, processing costs, and infrastructure. Patrons rummage for books
Given that the majority of patrons don't understand Dewey, and the average person's enjoyment of the Challenges of Rummage, it makes sense to free up library staff by not shelving. Further savings will be made in fixtures costs, by replacing expensive shelves with cheap tables. Also, library usage will be increased by adding that festive "yard sale" atmosphere, and replacing expensive buildings with canvas tents. Library promotion will be by hand painted signs taped to utility poles with "Free books -Today Only" and arrows pointing in the direction of the new facilities ....

US ECONOMY
Gross National Product Inflated

IRS Logo
Graphic from CNN
America can sleep well tonight, knowing that the IRS has now granted the Warrior Librarian's creator an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Following 15 months of correspondance, including the forwarding of notarised copies of driver's licences, birth certificates, marriage licences, letters from the local mayor (witnessing residence) and parliamentarians (witnessing citizenship), numerous intercontinental - if not interplanetary - faxes and phonecalls, two rejection letters from the IRS, and finally a really whiney email to the Whitehouse, Biblia's alter-ego has now received the official status of Non-Resident Alien Taxpayer.

With the anticipated tax on the royalties from the upcoming Biblia's Guide to Warrior Librarianship, the US economy stands to benefit in the order of US$20-$40, which should nearly cover the costs to American taxpayers for the government's correspondence expenditure ...
[Midpage Footnote]
Although there is no evidence (apart from circumstancial) that the email to the Whitehouse made any difference to the final outcome, never underestimate the effect of a powerful whine ...

WHERE'S THE BOOK?
Technical Glitch Delay
Biblia's Guide to Warrrior Librarianship Bound page proofs of Biblia's Guide to Warrior Librarianship were exhibited by the publisher at the ALA mid-winter conference. Currently, a technical problem with the reproduction of graphics is causing much gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, etc, but should be fixed soon.

A preview of the front and back covers is available here, at no cost. You'll only have to buy the bits in between, but you'll also get a hard copy of these covers, gratis ...

STREAMING MEDIA
The Really Useful Stuff, Fast
It is with great anticipation that many surfers decide download a videoclip from a library website, excited at the prospect of multimedia information delivered at the speed of light - only to be bitterly disappointed. Not only do they find that they have to wait absolutely ages for the download to complete, but then suffer the seemingly unending content as well.

So, congratulations to USC library! A one second video clip; what a boon for people in a big hurry ...

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION
Upcoming Conference Appearances
Minnesota (and surrounding states) librarians can now start packing their bags for the October 2003 conference, confident in the knowledge that this year the Warrior Librarian herself/live/in person will be presenting a keynote address, afterdinner speil, a workshop and maybe some other stuff.

An invitation has also been received from the School Library Association of Queensland for a similar appearance in June 2004, with the Californian School Library Association conference in November 2004 still a possibility ...

LIBRARIES IN THE HEADLINES
Pal-item.com featured the Newberry and Caldecott Award winners, together with the revelation that young readers prefer new books. Maybe someone should let them know that all ages, sizes, genders and genre hounds also like to read material that isn't falling apart or mouldy. Except maybe archivists ...

DISSAPOINTMENT SITE OF THE WEEK
WLW's usual unreliable sources reported that the character Rupert Giles (in the TV series Buffy) was a librarian with wide appeal to younger people. Although buffygiles.com held some small promise for stereotype-busting, it's basically a fan site with digitally modified graphics. Does have a few pix with books in the background, for the really desperate ...
