Displays @ your library Many librarians were disappointed that they were belatedly informed by the Stanford Advocate of the occurence of World Toilet Day on November 16. An informal survey of the global library community revealed that not one library had set up any display, nor run any promotion to celebrate this international event. However, a retrospective examination (which is the process by which you finally find time to research, after that point in time when it would actually have achieved something) revealed that according to the World Toilet Organisation's website, the actual day was November 19, not 16. Given that Halloween, Christmas and Easter displays may cause offence to people of some ethnic, religious or cultural groups, it would seem that World Toilet Day is one event that could be celebrated by the whole global community ... ... (Sure, the millenium may only be a few years old, so maybe there haven't been that many great debates.) Although many librarians have spend years - and in some cases decades - trying to juggle the protection of intellectual property rights with the provision of information access, NOW the legal profession is going to "debate" this conflict. Lawyers Kate Haddock (partner, Banki Haddock Fiora)and Michael Williams (partner, Gilbert and Tobin)will be moderated by Michael Green (barrister, St James Hall Chambers). You can watch the procedings for a mere $66.00, for around an hour. You usually have to pay much more than that for a live performance of lawyers squabbling ... ... Also in the band are other writers such as Steven King, Matt Groening, and Dave Barry. According to their website, between them the band members have sold over 200 million books. Elsewhere on the net, TRBR are described as appearing for charities. At this stage, there is no comment on the theory that Tan was selected due to Barry or King's refusal (or possibily inability) to wear the lead singer costume ... ... There is no more to read >>
Maybe libraries have been attempting the wrong approach on collection building. The announcement of a US$3.7 billion for nanotechnology seems to indicate that 'small' is favored over extensive, comprehensive or instructive. Certainly, to date the interest in funding for libraries has been viewed from the minimalist perspective ... ... There is no more to read >>
MORE ORIGINAL HUMOR
Research has shown that the average librarian will take 5-10 minutes to read this web page. Anecdotal evidence is suggesting that many librarians fear they do not have enough time to investigate the humor links. The majority of the 90+ original library humor items in the Humor Index are designed to take less than 2 minutes to read. However, if you choose to hang around there for hours reading them all, then re-reading them, then WLW cannot take any responsibility. You now have the choice of using the genetically unmodified Alphabetical Index or the dolphin-safe Dewey Version. Caffeine-free version has been temporarily canned, pending an FDA investigation ...
