Note: The opinions expressed herein are solely those of the author. Any resemblance to real librarians (living or dead, or somewhere in between) or real libraries, may be a coincidence - but probably not.

Biblia, the Warrior Librarian, was created by A.B.Credaro. The practice of Warrior Librarianship is common, and therefore quite possibly in the public domain. As such, it is likely to be exempt from any copyright restrictions. However, this does not limit Warrior Librarian Weekly, its agents, employees, heirs, spouses, family pets, or others connected with the zine, from trying to make an easy buck from its use.

Universal permission is granted to any website to create a link to any page on this site. Notification of such links is appreciated, but not mandatory.

JEST FOR PERSPECTIVE

Mid March 2004: Archived Edition

Australian poetry revival

Clive James Notable Australian ex-patriot Clive James has stated that there is a global resurgence in antipodean literature, with poetry proving to be the leading light.

Returning to Oz to tour with his book of poetry 'The book of My Enemy' and to attend various writers' festivals, James has authored over 40 books on various topics, including three autobiographies.

Weighing in at 400 pages, the book is an accumulation of four decades of work. The guy just isn't trying, if it took him 40 years to make enough enemies to fill a book ...

Junior Chick-Lit hits big screen

Delta Goodrem Delta Goodrem will take the lead female role in the film version of Robin Klien's Hating Alison Ashley, a tale of teenage angst and parental embarrassment. The project has been given the "green light", and starts filming in Melbourne in a few weeks time.

Which goes a long way to explaining why the film's website is not yet operational, the trailers aren't available, you can't complete an online review, fan sites are conspicuous by their absence, and there is not yet a supporting cast to lampoon ...

Information Literacy Framework hysteria

Asleep at the keyboard The release of the second edition of the Australian and New Zealand Information Literacy Framework: Principals, Standards and Practice (ISBN 192092700X available online for free at http://www.anziil.org/index.htm, or 5 print copies for AUD$35.00 including tax and postage in Australia - no information about additional costs to New Zealand, or elsewhere) is causing much less interest than was initially anticipated.

Which just goes to prove that having a document edited by an Al Bundy is no guarantee of textual humor ...

Computer upgrade goes terribly wrong

computer upgrade Just when you thought it was safe to go back online, you find out you have a hardware problem. Or maybe a software conflict. Although problems with corrupted files might be the base cause. Whatever.

Yep, you checked it was plugged into the power outlet. You're not dumb - you checked the main power switch was on. The next obvious step is to pull the thing to pieces, right?

Around the world, this depressing scenario is being constantly repeated ...

WLW EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Journeying with Anna Maria Dell'oso

Anna Maria Dell'oso Far from it being a dark and stormy night, it was a humid Sunday afternoon at a senior high school in Sydney's western suburbs. The critically acclaimed author was delivering a lecture to students preparing for their finals. The HSC English topic "Journeys" was not one to be taken lightly.

Yet, just moments after the polite applause came to an end, a figure darkened if not the doorway, at least the back of the school library. Yep. It was the Warrior Librarian seeking yet another real-life, real-time interview ...

WLW RESEARCH COLUMN

Searching for information With the news that Panasonic has orchestrated a beatnik deal for musical mobile (cell) phones, this seems like a good time to revisit the options for dealing with grating ring tones that completely destroy the patina of academia for library patrons.

Not to mention library staff, custodians, and the hearing-sensitive. Tinnitus sufferers don't seem to notice any difference ...

WLW ORIGINAL LIBRARY HUMOR

MORE ORIGINAL HUMOR
Laugh yourself comatose

WLW Reader

Research has shown that the average librarian will take 15 to 20 minutes to read this web page. Anecdotal evidence is suggesting that many librarians fear they do not have enough time to investigate the humor links. The majority of the 90+ original library humor items (all written by Biblia, and not available anywhere else on the 'net) in the Humor Index are designed to take less than 2 minutes to read.

However, if you choose to hang around there for hours reading them all, then re-reading them, then WLW cannot take any responsibility. You now have the choice of using the genetically unmodified Alphabetical Index or the dolphin-safe Dewey Version. Caffeine-free version has been temporarily canned, pending an FDA investigation ...

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION

MASS MEDIA: Although the Blacktown Advocate has once again ignored the Warrior Librarian and her various activities, the University of Sydney Gazzette apparently covered this less-than-distinguished alumni's publishing efforts in a recent issue. Two independent sources have mentioned the item, although attempts to obtain another copy of same have so far been unsuccessful (the whereabouts of Biblia's copy are currently unknown) ...

CONFERENCES Biblia's next conference appearance is scheduled on June 29, 2004 for the School Library Association of Queensland. Members and friends of MEMO can click here for the report on the Fargo conference.

ACADEMIA: The University of Texas at Arlington now lists this website on its page 'Websites for Professional Growth'...

INTERNET: Google now lists 'about' 1,830 hits for a search on the phrase "warrior librarian". Not that we check regularly or anything ....

FROM THE MAILBOX: There's been an interesting increase in the number of "bouncing" emails coming back to our mailbox - particularly as they weren't sent from here. When we find out who's spoofing our address to send p*orn*graphic spam, boy, are they in deep trouble ...

Throughout the intervening days between the last edition and this one, I've taken time to reflect on a number of issues of concern to libraries locally, nationally and internationally.

Now I'm really depressed ...
