Biblia, the Warrior Librarian, was created by A.B.Credaro. The practice of Warrior Librarianship is common, and therefore quite possibly in the public domain. As such, it is likely to be exempt from any copyright restrictions. However, this does not limit Warrior Librarian Weekly, its agents, employees, heirs, spouses, family pets, or others connected with the zine, from trying to make an easy buck from its use.

LIBRARY CONFERENCE FEATURE

MEMO Conference, ND

The Warrior Librarian denied that her arrival in Fargo ND in the middle of the night last Sunday was in any way related to an incredibly bad hair day (actually, 29 hours, but why be picky?). The late arrival time was entirely due to the international airline leaving Middle Earth two hours late, resulting in two subsequent missed connections.

Rerouted through Minneapolis with only minutes to reach the ongoing flight, Biblia was unable to check out the fantastic-looking bookshop at the airport, and expects to be writing stern letters to NorthWestern Airways on this matter.

Sauces close to Fargo refuse to be drawn into the argument, preferring to stay bottled up ....

Ask Dr Bob

doctor As Internet use continues its expodential growth, more and more people are choosing to get their medical advice from unauthorative web sites. Warrior Librarian, in its usual state of desperation, has embraced that particular bandwaggon - although in a semi-responsible way - and consulted a real doctor for qualified advice for travelling librarians.

Dr Bob (his real name, although not his real photo) states that Melatonin may help, but that you should "avoid the free alcohol, skip the movie, drink plenty of fluids, walk around as often as possible, and most important, fly first class".

He added that he once flew first class due to an unexpected upgrade. "I sat behind Kylie Minogue, but didnÂ’t realise it until we landed in London when the steward informed me. So I can honestly say that I have slept with Kylie, but it was quite boring. I hope she enjoyed it." Thank you, Dr Bob ....

Legal advice illustrated with a picture of an actor who was famous for his portrayal of lawyers ....

Actor depicting lawyer With security concerns paramount when travelling, particularly by air, the contemporary library conference attendee must be aware not only of their responsibilities, but also their rights.

Remember, that in many countries, you have the right to remain silent, the right to legal advice, and the right to a swift hearing. Except for sometimes, when you won't. So don't travel with knitting needles - the last thing we need is any more fuel for the library stereotypers.

Don't even think about getting on a plane with nail clippers, or long toenails. The toenails will poke through your socks or pantyhose, and be an embaressment when you take off your shoes.

WLW did consult a real, actual legal counsel, and was informed of some pretty high powered stuff. Perhaps most significant was the closing paragraph, which stated that there was "no correlation with the last paragraph and the second last paragraph is intended, any offence taken was not meant or implied in any way whatsoever, and apologies are proffered for any hurt, illwill , discontent felt or feelings wounded by any implied inference taken or assumed by any party or any reader hereinbefore referenced or future exposed participant" ...

Grandma's advice for traveling

grandma

Don't forget to take plenty of clean underwear. Sure, they'll have washing machines and all that new-fangled gadgetry. Never held with any of that stuff, meself. No, none of that store-bought fancy washing powder in my day. We used to keep the fat off the pigs, and make our own soap back when I was your age. And boil the clothes in a copper. Sheesh! The burns from the boilin' water - don't know if they's worse nor better 'n getting that lye in yer eyes! But yer great-aunt Annie. Now she was the one for getting the whole house spick 'n' span with nothin' more 'n hot water and elbow grease. There'd be Annie, up before dawn, feeding chooks 'n' milkin' cows 'n' bakin' bread, then down on her knees scrubbin' away til it was time to go to bed. Beats me why she left a good, honest man like Virgil, and took up with the first no-good, lay-about multi-millionaire that just happened along ...

MORE ORIGINAL HUMOR
Laugh yourself comatose

WLW Reader

Research has shown that the average librarian will take 5-10 minutes to read this web page. Anecdotal evidence is suggesting that many librarians fear they do not have enough time to investigate the humor links. The majority of the 90+ original library humor items in the Humor Index are designed to take less than 2 minutes to read.

However, if you choose to hang around there for hours reading them all, then re-reading them, then WLW cannot take any responsibility. You now have the choice of using the genetically unmodified Alphabetical Index or the dolphin-safe Dewey Version. Caffeine-free version has been temporarily canned, pending an FDA investigation ...

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION

Not one broadsheet (or even tabloid) chose to publish anything by the Warrior Librarian in the last week. This includes both the Blacktown Sun and the Blacktown Advocate, both of whom received letters to the Editor about the month-long closure of Blacktown library (to accommodate extentions to the nearby shopping mall). We'd cancel our subscription to both of these papers, except for the fact they are free.

Biblia is currently in at the M.E.M.O. Fall Conference in North Dakota,USA. Some seats may still be left, if you hurry.

Recently discovered was the fact that both the Warrior Librarian and this website have been included in the course material for the Information Literacy e-course IST 4117 run by the School Information Cataloguing Service through Edith Cowan University ...

The math teaching portal, Geometry Net still includes the paper by A.B. Credaro on The Instructional Use of Children's Literature. Why they chose this one over Biblia's Maths Fiction Titles is beyond us ...

Meanwhile over at Amazon.com, the current sales rating for Biblia's Guide has slipped from last week's 90,000 down to around the 500,000. Again. But at least Amazon have stopped using the Biblia information page to advertise working in Australia as a librarian. The new commercial is for a UK company offering LMS-style qualifications online.

With a couple of thousand SoBig viruses, plus numerous offers to enlarge bits that I don't possess, and the fat-reduction stuff (that we probably should have read), we are nearly starting to miss the Nigerian finance offers ....

WLW RESEARCH COLUMN

Searching for information

Not actually any original research, but in the course of trawling through fossil archives of the NSW Geological Survey (as one does), the WLW research team came across the famous Mort Collection. Well, they all seemed pretty morte to me ...

Following the wildly popular inclusion of Conference Tips in a recent issue of WLW (well, there was less hate mail than usual, although this could be due to fewer people reading WLW, rather than any implied accolades), this week's edition is devoted to conferences.

INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY
NEWS BLOG

Gee, I hope they do a better job on the Blair Library than they did on their witch project ....

Meanwhile, over in Malaysia, publishers have been told they must hand over a copy of all their materials to the national library. I wish I'd thought of that ...

Out there in Barbados there is concern that only one-fifth of the country's population are members of the library. Sheesh! 100% of the members of my school community are members of our school library - doesn't mean they all use it though. Better to have 20% of the population being responsible borrowers, than 60% being irresponsible! ...

It's good to hear the news from India that a prisoner who fought for 5 years for the right to read in jail is now running a library. Who better to spot and deal with library vandals ...

The National Library of Scotland felt the full fury of a librarian scorned - 6 times over - when senior staff were made redundant ...

Western Australia gave a lot of coverage to Madonna (the singer) launching the first of her children's books. Didn't get much coverage in the eastern states, except for a few irate postings about Madonna's launch outfit of a floral frock and fairy wings being described by the media as looking like "a middle aged librarian" ...

Advice to residents of Hermanus, South Africa for preparing for next week's Whale Festival include stocking up on library books. Must be one hell of a festival they're having there ...

Beverly Shaheen's of Menton can't understand why someone would remove her sign expressing her opposition to the proposed regional library. Would any WLW readers on the Mendon area like to help her out and explain it to her ....
